Let’s get everyone up to speed
Over the past five years, Canada has passed some pretty wild legislation; I mean some real doozies.
First, we have Bill C-4, the conversion therapy law. Essentially, this bill declares historic Christian belief is a harmful myth, and seeks to punish anyone who helps another person to turn from sexual sin toward God’s good and gracious design for marriage and sexuality. Anyone who either advertises for or engages in what is vaguely defined as conversion therapy can go to jail and pay a very large fine.
Second, we have Bill C-18, the online news regulation law. Essentially, in order for Canadians to share any news article over social media, those social media platforms must pay those Canadian news outlets an annual fine. Otherwise (as is most notable on Facebook), any links shared will be met with a notification saying that the content is not available in Canada.
Third, we have Bill C-21, the firearms ban bill. Essentially, this bill not only arbitrarily bans many firearms that legal firearms owners have possessed for years, it also limits their ability to protect themselves and hunt for their livelihood by banning those firearms.
What doesn’t kill us might make us weaker
You don’t need a jewel-encrusted tinfoil hat and a full-bodied tinfoil gown to see that these laws do not respect and protect the God-given rights that belong to Canadians. These laws tamp down on free speech, especially the free expression of religious beliefs and the ability to proclaim them to others. These laws limit the access Canadians have to news and information, funneling them to a set of fewer sources that are approved by the State. These laws hinder the ability of Canadians to hunt for food and protect their own families.
These and many other laws passed over the past five years lead to a larger and more controlling State. They cost taxpayers millions of dollars and subsume more and more of Canadian culture and society under the State. These laws move our country closer to tyranny and totalitarianism.
The State believes that its job is to grant and permit rights to citizens, which is the opposite of everything upon which Western culture and laws have been built. God alone grants rights, and God alone defines what freedom is. By engaging in “rights-granting” practices, the State is declaring itself to be god, to the detriment of society. Left unchecked, this will inevitably lead to the ruin of the nation, both its leaders and citizens.
While the three laws I mentioned above are dangerous for Canadians, there are new laws being debated in Parliament right now that are as bad, if not worse, than what we’ve seen over the past five years.
Gnostic categories of vague thought-crimes
The first of these freedom-threatening pieces of legislation working its way through Parliament (currently in its Second Reading in the House) is Bill C-63, also known as the Online Harms Act. Right off the bat, the title, purposefully designed with all of the Marxist doublespeak you would expect, is designed to disarm and deceive. After all, which person is actually for online harm? The Bill has been named strategically to shame anyone who would oppose the Bill. “I guess you want people to be harmed online,” the Leftists would say.
The Bill vaguely defines hate and hate speech, which are central aspects of the Bill. The Bill amends the Canadian Criminal Code. If you are found guilty of having engaged in hate speech, you could face a maximum of lifetime in prison. Yes, I did just say that, and no, I was not being hyperbolic. On top of punishing vague speech crimes, the Bill will also punish thought crimes. If someone believes you may engage in hate speech, and if a judge believes you are a credible threat, you could be sentenced to a maximum of one year under house arrest with an ankle monitor.
The Bill also amends the Human Rights Code. If someone believes they have been victimized by your hate speech, they can file a grievance with the Human Rights Council. If a panel finds you guilty, you won’t be criminally charged, but you might have to pay up to $70,000 in fines and penalties.
It is my contention that this Bill will be targeted against Christians specifically and all those people who oppose the LGBTQ-rainbow-mafia and child mutilation. I doubt any Muslims will be punished for speaking out against sodomy. This Bill will be used to come for those who bear the name of Christ and speak against all antichrist ideologies.
On the high-wire without a net
Supporting that diabolical piece of legislation (as if it needed any buttressing), is the second piece of legislation being debated, and that is Bill C-367, an amendment to the criminal code with regards to antisemitism. This Bill is short and sweet and only about three lines long. It seeks to repeal two sections of the Canadian Criminal Code, Paragraph 319(3)(b) and Paragraph 319(3.1)(b). It seems totally innocuous.
That is, of course, until you realize that this Bill is similar to cyanide – a very small dose has catastrophic consequences. At present, if someone engages in antisemitic or hateful speech, they are exempt from criminal charges “if, in good faith, the person expressed or attempted to establish by an argument an opinion on a religious subject or an opinion based on a belief in a religious text.”
That sounds like a wonderful protection against being prosecuted for promoting so-called hate propaganda. Do you want to guess what part of the Canadian Criminal Code contains that exemption? That’s right! That would be Paragraph 319(3)(b), the exact same section that will be removed if Bill C-367 becomes a law in Canada. That small drop of poison isn’t so impotent anymore, is it?
As with Bill C-63, I sincerely doubt Muslims who call for the genocide of Jews will find themselves in court for contravening the Canadian Criminal Code, and the same goes for purple-haired Marxists who demand that all “Alt-Right Wing Christo-Fascist Nationalists” should die. No, the crosshairs are aimed at Christians primarily, as well as anyone who opposes the Woke agenda and is not a member of a protected people class. Moreover, simply making the claim that Jewish people killed Jesus (which is affirmed by the Apostle Peter and the Apostle Paul), could be considered hate speech under current Canadian laws. Again, I sincerely doubt that Muslims would be punished for expressing similar sentiments.
I bet you thought we were done with deadly viruses
The last piece of devilish legislation is Bill C-293, An Act Respecting Pandemic Prevention and Preparedness (I know, just reading those words makes my skin crawl). Personally, I was done with pandemics in April 2020, but that’s just because my tinfoil armor has been polished and ready for a long time now. However, I think most of us are quite fed up with this nonsense, seeing as how we’re almost into 2025.
In short, the Bill (which is currently in its Second Reading in the Senate) will require the Minister of Health to create a pandemic prevention and preparedness plan, decide what the scary dangers are, how to spend money, which personal protective equipment we need and who gets it first, how we can collaborate with foreign nations and Indigenous people for the best results, decide which businesses are essential and must remain open, what and how the general public is told, and implement what is known as a One Health approach (yes, it’s quite Marxist).
In other words, the Federal Government wants to enshrine, into federal law, everything they did during the COVID era that was decreed by mandate, which by the way, is not binding law. If they ruined lives, crushed businesses, and were responsible for the needless deaths of countless Canadians with mandates, how much havoc will they wreak with enshrined legislation? The answer, of course, is a lot. If there are three things the State does well it’s spending truckloads of money, creating mountains of unnecessary laws, and punishing innocent Canadians with unrelenting tyranny.
So, is it time to leave Canada yet?
These Bills highlight the importance of being intentionally rooted and connected in a meaningful and authentic Christian community, which became all the more apparent during the COVID era. The temptation is to be afraid of these new Bills and the punishments they bring with them. We can also be tempted to self-censor and not proclaim those things which are true, good, and beautiful. We can be dissuaded from actually loving our neighbors and pointing them to the Word of God and the wonder of Christ.
But when you are surrounded by brothers and sisters in Christ who understand we are in the midst of both a spiritual war and cultural revolution, they do what good soldiers always do, train and encourage us to get in the fight, bandage our wounds and strengthen us when we are battered and beaten, and send us back into the fray for the glory of God. This is not the time to be an isolated light in a very dark world (I wrote about this here). These are not the days for lone wolf Christians.
If you haven’t already, find a good church, and by that I do not simply mean a church with a rock-solid doctrinal statement and expository preaching. I also mean a church that truly is salt and light in our world, pushing back against the darkness, storming the gates of hell, mounting an offensive against the kingdom of darkness, and not bowing or giving an inch to the antichrist beast that fills the seats of Parliament.
Once you do that, the words of Jesus in Matthew 10:16-39 are sufficient to fill our spines with steel:
“Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves. Beware of men, for they will deliver you over to courts and flog you in their synagogues, and you will be dragged before governors and kings for my sake, to bear witness before them and the Gentiles. When they deliver you over, do not be anxious how you are to speak or what you are to say, for what you are to say will be given to you in that hour. For it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you. Brother will deliver brother over to death, and the father his child, and children will rise against parents and have them put to death, and you will be hated by all for my name's sake. But the one who endures to the end will be saved… So have no fear of them, for nothing is covered that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known. What I tell you in the dark, say in the light, and what you hear whispered, proclaim on the housetops. And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell… Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. And whoever does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.”
Similar developments are occurring in the United States. The antisemitism bill already has been passed here and agree that much of it is aimed at Christians. While I’ve also asked the question where to go, I get the sense that as Christians we are to stand up rather than to flee. We’re going to have to get used to the idea that faith will come at a cost similar to what was seen with the apostles in Acts 5:17-42. I continue to pray that God will prepare us for what is to come.
Canada is "killing them slowly" with everything that restricts, censors, controls, and hurts. While other global-fixated countries are committing the same slow death on its people as well, including what the US did to its people these past 4 years, it seems that Canada is completely and with malice aforethought rabidly destroying its people completely. It's a crime against humanity. The demons are today's leaders - how did that happen??
